The Prophet Daniel
What Jesus said about the prophet John the Baptist we could say about the prophet Daniel. What did you go out into the wilderness to see? A prophet? Yes, I say to you, and more than a prophet. Matt. 11:7,9
 
Daniel dared to be different, instead of bending and blending like a reed, he stood like a mighty oak, rooted in the Lord and defying the storms of change that raged about him.
 
The Sovereign Lord
Today’s society is a good deal like the one Daniel lived in centuries ago. The world still wants God’s people to conform to its standards and follow its practice. Don’t let the world around you squeeze you into its own mold. Daniel and his friends obeyed that admonition.
 
As we study the book of Daniel, we will meet Daniel’s God, the Sovereign Lord who rules in the kingdom of his people. [Dan: 4:32] and who confidently announces things to come. In Daniel’s life and ministry, we see how true believers live in the light of biblical prophecy how they relate to the Sovereign Lord and accomplish His good, acceptable, and perfect will.
 
Daniel and his three friends are examples of dedication and commitment. They determined to serve God regardless of the consequences. They did not give in to pressures from an ungodly society, because they had a clear purpose in life. This will give us direction and peace regardless of circumstances or consequences. We should disobey anyone who tells us to disobey God. Our first allegiance must be to him.
